McArthur to stand up for Scottish fishing5.11.17pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 15th Oct 2008 Speaking ahead of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation’s annual dinner, Liberal Democrat Fisheries spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP called for real support for the fishing industry. Mr McArthur will attend the dinner tonight and is due to meet with the Commissioner responsible for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Joe Borg, later this month. Commenting, Mr McArthur said: “Now more than ever, Scottish fishing needs our support. The industry has been badly hit by soaring fuel prices and buffeted each year by a bewildering array of new initiatives dreamt up by the European Commission. “I’m pleased that the President of the SFF is taking a positive view about the future for Scottish fishing. I can assure him that I will continue to stand up for the fishing industry, which sustains many communities across Scotland including my own constituency, Orkney.”
