Scott demands support for renewables industry

4.07.39pm GMT Thu 19th Mar 2009

Commenting after challenging Alex Salmond at First Minister’s Questions to provide real support for the renewables industry, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott said:

“Marine renewables could create 7,000 Scottish jobs. But the SNP could risk that opportunity at a time when our economy needs it most.

“Labour’s dash for nuclear threatens to cut off the investment, commitment and engineering skills needed for renewable energy.

“Shell’s decision to abandon wind, wave and tidal is a big blow.

“The Scottish Government needs to respond to this news, not sit back and rely on old press releases.

“The Saltire cheque won’t be signed until 2015. But industry needs help now.”

Ends.
