Lib Dems urge Education Secretary to devolve more powers to parents

4.15.02pm GMT Tue 23rd Feb 2010

Commenting as the Education Secretary addresses a conference where he is expected to call for a full debate on moves to give schools more autonomy, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:

“Although I’m pleased that the Education Secretary has accepted our thinking about devolving power rather than grabbing power, we want him to go even further.

“We want to see parents given a say in their children’s education. This means devolving power down to parents and communities, not just to head teachers and schools.”
